Hey Friends!!
I hope everyone is doing well and keeping busy! I have been so inspired by everyone's artwork that you have been posting on our blog! As artists it is so important to share all the work that is going on in our homes.
Some K-2 graders may remember this project from my residency a few months back, but I knew you had a fun time with it, so I figured I would put together a little video tutorial on Youtube that you can watch as well.
I can't wait to share more video tutorials in the future and as I share you may get to meet some of my crazy animals. In this video, please enjoy my wild kitten Pilla (Cat-a-pilla).
Written steps are below the videos!

Written steps are below the videos!
Step1:
Begin by flipping over your plate and using your tooth pick to carve into your Styrofoam plate. You can do this by holding your toothpick at an angle and scraping the surface. Another technique is Stippling; Carefully making dots by poking into the plate.
Please be careful and always take your time!!!
You can really get some pretty images if you take your time with this!
Once you have filled in the center part of your plate, you can then begin with the next step. Don't worry about carving the edges of your plate.
Step 2:
Now that you have carved into your plate, you are ready to begin coloring in with some marker. You want to have some “juicy” markers, so that your image comes out clear. Color everywhere you want to see marker, but remember to color quickly so that the marker does not dry out on the plate.
Step 3:
Flip your plate over onto your paper and press really well, but try not to move the plate around or it may smear.
Step 4:
Take a look and print again!!
Keep in mind:
When adding more color try not to mix colors. If you want to change color patterns, wash off your plate and let it dry REALLY well!!
It is going to leave a fun texture, but each image may not be crystal clear. This is all a part of the process so think of how you can use this texture in other art pieces (ie, backgrounds)
You can use your scissors to cut your plate into different shapes, but try to keep an edge so it is easy to flip!
Have fun!!! More videos to come!!
